Californication … Done

I started watching the Californication miniseries with cautious optimism. Frankly, I thought it’d be a bit fluffy and super-predictable with a little T&A thrown in to attract the masses — surprisingly, I found it well written and a joy to watch. Of course, it was a little predictable, but lets face it, how many times can you write that love story and keep people on the edge of their seats. I can’t help but feel a little sad that Californication has reached it’s 12th and final episode.

That said, I was a little disappointed with the series closer — the whole thing seemed a bit … forced. A little too fairytale-ish. I couldn’t help but think of Niles and Daphne (Frasier).

I don’t believe that what we saw in that closing scene was really happening. It was Hank’s mind playing out what he would have loved to happen. I’m betting that when the show starts up next season you will see Hank and Becca in the front seat. When Hank looks in the rear view mirror no one will be there. Just like when we saw in some of the earlier eps where Karen is in the seat next to Hank and they kiss. Then a jet flies overhead and Hank looks up. When he looks back, no one is there with him.

Well, I really hope you’re right! That was in the back of my mind — particularly since Becca was so matter-of-fact about the situation.

Not to mention the fact that the two of them seriously getting back together would pretty much destroy 90% of the show.
